Dwight
Lyman Moody (February 5, 1837 - December 22, 1899), also
known as D.L. Moody, was an American evangelist and
publisher who founded the Moody Church, Northfield School
and Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts (now the Northfield
Mount Hermon School), the Moody Bible Institute and Moody
Publishers. With little education, he confounded the most
learned
scholars. With limited speaking abilities, he surpassed the
most eloquent orators. Armed with only a Bible and the
breath of
heaven on his ministry, he preached to America, then he jumped
across the
Atlantic to rock the British Isles with one of the greatest
moves of God ever seen.
He once said "Some day you will read in the papers that D.L.
Moody of East Northfield, is dead. Don't you believe a word
of it! At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now; I
shall have gone up higher, that is all, out of this old clay
tenement into a house that is immortal- a body that death
cannot touch, that sin cannot taint; a body fashioned like
unto His glorious body. I was born of the flesh in 1837. I
was born of the Spirit in 1856. That which is born of the
flesh may die. That which is born of the
Spirit will live forever".
This is believed to be the only existing audio recording of Dwight Moody. It is a very poor quality, however it must be remembered that audio recording was being invented and developed during this time (late 1800's) and this was ONE of the first!. Even though it is difficult to hear the enunciation of his words, it is amazing to hear the voice of such a hero of the faith, and better yet he is reading the words of the master whom he so faithfully served.
